Singapore NTUC Income’s accelerator selects first round of startups

Singapore-based insurance provider NTUC Income announced on Monday that its equity-free accelerator programme Income Future Starter has selected nine startups.

The programme powered by TAG.PASS is a partnership with Infocomm Investments Private Limited (IIPL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) of Singapore, and aims to hone and invest in global infocomm technology startups.

Each of the nine teams will be awarded a S$28,000 in an equity-free entrepreneur grant and mentorship from specialists who will offer deep professional expertise and industry insights as part of the accelerator’s structured curriculum.

Examples include Health2ynce, a Taiwanese startup that offers a healthcare management platform that revolutionises diabetic care through automated care and analytics; Innoplaylab, a Korean startup that provides robotics solution to address the needs of home security; and Anywhere 2 Go, a Thai startup that facilitates communication and motor insurance claims processing between drivers and their insurance companies.

The shortlisted startups cater to needs across diverse categories including preventive healthcare, enhanced customer experience, robotics solution and digital advisory services.

Ken Ng, chief executive of Income said, “Given that insurtech is at its infancy in Singapore, we understand that startups working in this new frontier are unfamiliar with the insurance business.”

During the 11-week accelerator programme, the nine companies will have access to expert mentors including those from Income, IIPL, Philips and KPMG and will be housed at Singapore’s largest startup space, BASH (Build Amazing Startups Here).

Alex Lin, head of IIPL said, “The startups selected for this inaugural programme run have products and solutions that display an alignment with Income’s business needs and gaps… Upon graduation with a minimum viable product, they’re ready for the next stage of growth, and Income Future Starter, with its customer base and domain expertise, catapults them to their next phase.”

Income’s programme opened for registration in August this year and attracted a total of 190 applications from 20 countries. It will kickstart on January 9, 2017 and a Demo Day will be held on March 24.

Korean super dog latest entry into social robot market

South Korean technology start-up Innoplaylab is planning to join the burgeoning market for “companion” robots with a silicon pet that combines the roles of guard dog, nanny, computer, smartphone and remote controller.

The Domgy (“my dog”) unit is intended to capitalise on developments in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI), speech-recognition and autonomous driving technology and combine them with the growing market for smart home appliances and emotionally intelligent robots.

Jean Jeon, a director of Innoplaylab, told GCR that the unit had the functionality of Amazon’s Echo speaker, to which it added a range of extra abilities. He said: “It has visual and infrared sensors, it can talk and listen, it can access the internet using Wi-Fi or 4G networks, it can move around a house without bumping into things, and it will navigate to its charging dock when its battery runs down.”

The sensors and the mobility enable Domgy to look after an empty house. If it detects something untoward, it can call the owner and send them a picture of what it’s looking at. It can use its infrared sensor and the Bluetooth protocol to control appliances such as televisions and air-conditioning units, and could turn off ovens and irons that have been left on by mistake.

Jeon said it will be able to carry out smart interactions with people as well as appliances.

He said: “It will build up profiles of people it meets regularly, it will be able to recognise their faces and voices, and it will talk to a teenager in a different way to an adult. It can monitor the health of the elderly, prompt them to take medication. Equally, it can read bedtime stories to children using its text-to-speech function, play music and dance to it, send emails using its speech-to-text and remember its owners’ birthdays.

기업과 마케터를 연결하는 중개 플랫폼 마담의 서비스가 
대한민국 대표 테크/스타트업 미디어 beSUCCESS에 소개 되었습니다.

기업과 광고 마케터를 연결하는 중개 플랫폼 '마담(MADAHM, 대표 김연호)'이 서비스를 시작했다고 지난 17일 알려왔다.

'마담'이라는 서비스명은 '마케팅'과 '담다'의 합성어로, 다양한 형식의 광고를 집행하는 기업이 손쉽게 광고 마케터를 선택해 프로젝트를 진행하도록 연결하고 관리해주는 중개 플랫폼이다.

광고를 의뢰하는 기업은 단계별 등록 메뉴를 통해 제안요청서(RFP)를 작성하고, 마담에 가입된 마케터는 등록된 여러 RFP를 살펴본 후 자신에게 적합한 프로젝트를 선택해 맞춤 제안을 하는 형식. 마담을 통해 프로젝트를 의뢰하는 기업은 목적에 따라 다양한 제안을 비교 검토할 수 있고, 마케터는 새로운 광고 수주 기회를 얻을 수 있다.

마담은 연결이 성사되어 진행되는 프로젝트의 품질 관리를 위해 매니저 시스템을 도입했다. 전담으로 지정된 매니저는 최초 미팅부터 계약, 광고집행 완료 시점까지 모든 과정을 관리한다.

실제로 스타트업과 중소기업 등 작은 규모의 기업에 존재하는 다양한 광고 마케팅 수요, 그리고 영업에 어려움을 겪는 마케터 사이를 연결한다는 기획은 이제 막 시작된 플랫폼 '마담'의 흥미로운 부분이다. 김연호 대표는 직접 광고 업계에서 일하면서 경험한 여러 불편과 어려움을 해결해보자는 생각으로 플랫폼을 구상했으며, 광고 집행 과정에서 발생하는 고충을 파악하고 서비스에 반영해 기업과 마케터 모두에게 유용할 것이라고 기대를 표했다
