My name is Manolya ÖZLÜ. I am 18 years old and as a part of my studies in International Trade I had to do an intership abroad. I had the choice to chose the country, so I decided to this internship with the Notag company, based in Seoul.
The main goal of this internship was to learn more about international trade, prospection,...
FIRST WEEK :
I have met the team and I have looked around the exhibition with the manager Mister Kim who presented us most of the product.
After the presentation, I went to a press conference. When it was over, we went back to the exhibition with the reporters.
Then, we took a look around again, but this time it was with Mister Choi. We got more information about the goal of the exhibition, the product and also what the designers wanted to show and explain by their product.
Since I did not about Dongdaemun Design Plaza, I had free time to visit the place and its surroundings.
The next day, my work was to sell the products but from time to time I had other thing to do, like translating the description of the product in English, Spanish or even in French.
The same day, I have participated at the opening party of « Plz dont but it ».
Week 2 :
I've started the second week by translating a part of the website in English. During this week my work was the same as the last one, I had to sell the product to the visitors (B to C).
It is also during this week that I have visited an other exhibition that took place in DDP too : « Brilliant memories » by Hyundai.
The day later, I had the chance to go to a meeting with Paperobean. In this meeting, I have noticed some difference between France and Korea.
After this meeting, we went to visit a store that might be interesting for the company. We looked around and take some pictures.
Week 3 :
During this week I had to find company that might be interested by our product in France, especially in Paris. I had to contact them by mail.
Another work that I had was to promote all of the SNS (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and also to write more posts. When I was done with promoting all the pages, I had to sell the product again.
On May 25th, there was the SOXSOO festival. During this day there were several game. I was with a team member of SOXSOO, and I had to explain the rules of the game to the foreigners.
Week 4 & 5 :
During week 4 I have sent mails to customers, and also to uptade the buyer list.
Week 5 started by moving the boxes that were in exhibition because we had new product to show. After this, same as the last week I have sent mails to customers, and also to uptade the buyer list.
There was a conference named « Young forum » that took place in DDP. We met korean designers and some of their design product. The same day we got a party at our exhibition.
Week 6, 7, 8 :
I have changed some point on the powerpoint of the company. After doing it, I have sent it to customers but I had to make a special one for each by checking what kind of product they were already selling. After finishing the current list that I had, my goal was to find new customers in several countries. (Turkey, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Australia, EAU). I have managed the English website of Paperobean for few days.
This week was really exciting since I got the chance to meet Jean Charles de Castelbajac. I took a part in one his conference that was in DDP.
During Week 8, I went to « Esprit Dior » exhibition.
ACHIEVEMENTS :
This intership was a real opportunity to me, cause it permitted me to practice about stuff that I have learn in school.
For example, at the beginning of this internship when I was selling the product (B to C), I was really shy, but through the time I get more confident. Before going towards visitors, I was just looking at them and if they looked interested I just go to talk to them and show them how to use the product, which was the best way to communicate with Korean people.
I have also learned about how to create and manage a website.
Thanks to the mailing I got some orders froms buyers (Fenwick, Barbican,...). Everytime I got and order I have received a commision which was really motivating for me.
MY LIFE IN SEOUL :
Life in Korea is not hard at all. Even if Korea is really different by its culture from France, the adaptation was not hard.
Before coming here I tought that since I do not speak Korean it would be difficult for me, but that was not the case, the language is not a barrier. You can express what you feel or what you want by using four languages if it is needed but at the end people generally understand.
One of the coolest thing about Seoul is that you can travel through the city just by using the subway. You can never be bored in Seoul, you can always find something to do.
I would like to thanks all the Notag team and specially Aiden Ung Choi, for giving me this opportunity and permitting me have this beautiful experience and memories.

Presentation
What I did
During these parties, I had to talk to every people who came in our place, make a short presentation of our brand exposed.
For this exhibition, they create the website : Plzdontbuyit.com. I had to translate this website in english and french. Also, I wrote some article on our blog.
At the end of May, I had to help them to change the display of the new products, bringing some french ideas.
After having manage this place, Aiden ask me to found 10 gifts shops in France to try to sell our products thanks to sending email. He teach me how can I did to improve my mailing and it became more attractive.
After having considered the products and the company's mentality, Aiden give to me a buyer list with some contacts and create for me an Intern Program. Then
, he explains to me how can I get in touch with those contacts. I begin to send our brochure to my buyer list. After done this list, I had to search reseller/distributor in the whole world (mostly in Europe and USA). For these companies, I had to check their website and update the brochure to it. Everyday, I had to check my email sent during my intern period.
What I Received
Through to this mailing, I got some order from buyer (National Theatre in London who order Mori, Aux singulier who order ppo) and receive commissions, is was motivated. I got some responsibilities during this internship, like support new buyers in campaign to exhibit our products.
During this 2 months I couldn't be lost as he supported me and advise me when I get important emails.
Moreover, He taught me how to create and upload a website with a simple website.
During my sell time at the beginning, it permits to saw how the korean’s customers react and think about purchasing something.
Some advertising campaign have been created for brands which permitted to let know it who they are. It permitted to me to saw what we have to do during this kind of event
Through to this internship in NoTag Group and to DDP, Ihad the luck to met many importants persons and people like Jean Charles De Castelbjac,
sit the Dior exhibition and many others who tell about design in the world and what it became a famous phenomenon.
What was the life in Korea
Despite the fact that the country is very far, either a continent and a different culture, the language is different ; This has not been a barrier to my integrity in South Korea. The Korean people are very friendly and hospitable.
There are so many places to visit like the Han River, The Séoul N Tower, a lot of temples and museums.
Also, Seoul is the really cool town for fun, bars and shopping everywhere !
Thank you NoTag for this amazing experience !

My name is Léa Wong, I’m currently 18 years old and a first year international trade student from France. One reason that motivated me to come to South Korea was because I have been interested in Kpop, dramas and Korean culture for a while.
And since, I had to do my internship abroad I thought why not going to a country I want to discover and learn more about?
I searched for different Korean company; I found NoTag and contacted Aiden to asked for an internship. I had an interview, we talked to each other and here I am!
My internship is focused on international trade especially prospection and I was hoping to learn more about prospection but not only I also wanted to discover more about trade, have more experience and knowledge.
I worked at DDP – Dongdaemun Design Plaza, a brand new building which offers many surprise regarding design.
What I did - What I learned
First of all, I had to learn more about the products I was going to sell so Aiden explained me each products with the designer’s idea/meaning behind it.
Plz don’t buy it mean that it asks customers to not buy the products if they do not understand it. As seller, I have the task to explain the products to the customers so I have to understand it.
Then after understanding the products, since the exhibition started a few days ago, we had to make people notice us and introduce our self (our company, our exhibition and sometimes our profile).
And so I created Facebook, Twitter, Instagram account and page, I update our products pictures and description in English, French and Spanish. At the same time, I had to sell products to customers at the exhibition – B to C while selling the products to the customers I explained them the designer meaning because selling is not the only thing that is important. People have to understand the creator message before buying.
In order to make people notice us, as the exhibition started a few days ago I had to advert by maintaining our different account and page. Update picture of customers buying our products or even simply enjoy their time at our exhibition.
Some events like, the exhibition inauguration or Soxsoo festival were held at DDP and so I had to update pictures of this event on Facebook and Instagram. (Keep those accounts alive are an important part in advertisement)
During my internship, I also had to do prospection: sending mails to our buyers to recommend them our products. For this task, I had to check their website in order to find out their concept, understand what type of products they sell and if our products can match what they want.
After this I sent customized brochure to each of them, customized brochure are important since they show the customer that we did some research before contacting him but also it optimize the chance to get an order, he will see products that might interest him immediately.
I also had the chance to visit some gifts shop in Seoul as well as the design square in Hongdae to search for new items that could be part of our new brochure. It was fun to discover new products but also very interesting to have the place of a buyer in a company. It made me realize that as a buyer I think differently than as a seller but I of course have to think carefully before choosing.
What I achieved
Netgift is a company based in China, they were interested to order our products and be our distributor in China
Their company already has made plans for the next few years such as opening park stores, online store, center store, opening in Beijing & Shanghai and then nationwide.
We proposed them P. products, after exchanging mails and going through negotiation they orders our products and became our distributor in China.
They order for almost 12 000 $, as I was in charge of this company I received 1% commission from their order so an amount of 120$. Receiving commission is not only a way to motivate but as I am a student I need to be more careful on my expenses so it helps me to cover up some of them.
SLG Kids is a Chinese company specialized in children and baby furniture and clothes. They already have 4 shops in China, use high – class materials and luxurious design to provide children the best comfort with lots of love.
They ordered some of our products and as I did for Netgift, I received a commission on their order. I was happy at that time because it was my first order and I am grateful to Aiden who gave me the chance to manage this order and teach me the process.
Lane Crawford is a famous shop in Hong Kong, specialized in luxury fashion, beauty and lifestyle retailer. It offers one of the largest products in China and carefully selects their products.
Grateful
I enjoy the past 10 weeks here and I am really grateful for this experience, I have not only learned many things concerning trade but I also met many kind-hearted people. I do not know how my life here would have been if I did not have met them. They were kind, open-minded and helped me a lot during my staying. I hope many people can have the same experience as I did because it makes you change and realize things, I came out more mature after working at NoTag and living in Seoul on my own.
How was life in South Korea - Seoul
The life in South Korea is different than in France, people act and think differently. The culture is also completely different, I find that Korean are more respectful of each other. They show much more their affection and care for someone, I mean not only couples but also family members and friends.
As I am Chinese I was not really affected by the change of environment and the food except the fact that the food is really too spicy for me.
I hope to be able to come here again, I leave NoTag and Seoul with very beautiful memories and I hope to met all of the amazing people I have met here.
I really recommend an internship at NoTag, you will learn many things, have different tasks and work with amazing people. Also life in Seoul might help you realize things and grow up, it will makes you change and be a good experience to live at least once.
In short, it was a beautiful and an amazing experience, I have loved it and wish someone to live the same one as I did.
